The chart illustrates the allocation of money for four different types of music in Northern Ireland from 2005 to 2011.
Overall, CDs accounted for the largest proportion of sales in 2005 and 2011. Additionally, there was a decrease in the expenditure on CDs and concerts while the opposite was true for digital downloads.
In detail, CDs made up the largest percentage of types of music, approximately two thirds in 2005, before falling to just under a half and nearly a quarter in 2008 and 2011 respectively. The second highest-ranking sales in 2005 belonged to concerts categories with about a third. After that, this figure witnessed a slight drop of 3 per cent to exactly a quarter in 2008, then rising a similar amount of spending to nearly a third in 2011.
By contrast, there was a remarkable surge in the distribution of money spent on digital downloads. In 2005, it took up the smallest sales, only 6 per cent. Then it increased sharply and ranked the second highest sales of all music in 2008, with just under a third. By 2011, the proportion of digital was 44 percent, increasing nearly eight folds as much as that of in 2005. Finally, the percentage of expenditure on other sources remained stable at only 2 per cent.
