The bar graph reveals the number of young people, in percentages, participating in sports outside of lessons by gender in Great Britain in 2019. In general, boys participated more in sports compared to girls, with football participation having the largest difference between the two genders.
Boys were shown to have more participation in cycling, football, and tennis (nearly 60%, 65%, and 25% respectively) in comparison to girls (50%, 18%, and 19% respectively). Notably, boys participated more than three times as much as girls in football.
On the other hand, girls participated more than boys in long walks or hiking, roller blading or skate boarding, and swimming, where 25% of girls participated in walking or hiking while 21% of boys did, and 28% of girls participated in roller blading or skate boarding, whereas 25% of boys roller bladed or skated. Similarly, almost 60% of girls swam while 10% less boys participated in swimming.
