The chart illustates the overall distance used by passengers on five kind of transport -bicycle, bike, air ,bus and rail- in the UK between 1990 and 2000.
Overall, the total passenger kilometers increased from 1990 to 2000. Furthermore, the distance travelled by air, bus, and rail all experienced increases during this period, while bicycle and bike remained relatively stable.
In 1990, bicycle and bike distances were both quite low, at just under 10 billion kilometers. Air travel was also low, at approximately 2.5 billion kilometers. Bus and rail travel were more significant, at approximately 40 billion and 35 billion kilometers respectively. The total distance travelled in 1990 was roughly 100 billion kilometers.
By 2000, bicycle and bike distances remained very low. However, air travel had more than doubled to nearly 7.5 billion kilometers. Both bus and rail travel increased to around 45 and 40 billion kilometers, respectively. The total distance travelled by all modes of transport in 2000 had increased to nearly 110 billion kilometers.
