As an overall trend, it can be seen that the total journey witnessed a significant increase during a dedicated period, from 105 bilions kilometers in the year 1990 to nearly 125 bilions kilometers in 2000. Additionally, bus and rail were the most popular among different transportations. Furthermore, these transportations along with showed an upward trend, while the opposite was true for bike and motorbike.
In the first year of the given period, bus was one of the most popular modes of transport used in the UK, with exactly 45 billion kilometers, followed by rail at about 40 billion kilometers. Over the next 10 years, both two transports experienced a gradual growth and showed the same number of passengers kilometers, approximately 47 billion kilometers. Besides, a similar trend was seen in air travel with the figure beginning 4 billion kilometers and rising to 7 billion kilometers in the final year.
Regarding the remaining types of transports, there was a downward trend in passenger kilometers traveled by bicycle and motorbike. To be more specific, the figure for bike and motorbike started at around 5 and 7 billion kilometers, respectively, and since then falling to below 5 billion traveller kilometers at the end of given period.
