Overall, private studios are the most popular venue for dance classes, while college-based studios account for the smallest proportion. Regarding dance styles, ballet is most popular among children under 11, whereas modern dance is preferred by those aged 11 to 16.
In terms of location, nearly half of all classes (48%) take place in private studios. School halls are the second most common venue, representing 24% of classes. Community halls and other venues make up 18%, while only 10% of classes are held in college-based studios.
Looking at dance types by age group, around 600 students under the age of 11 attend ballet classes, making it the most popular option in this group. Tap is chosen by approximately 450 students, while modern dance attracts about 300 younger children. In contrast, among 11-16-year-olds, modern dance is the most popular, with just over 500 students. Tap classes enrol roughly 420 teenagers, whereas ballet is the least popular in this age group, with only around 300 students.
