The pie charts illustrate the changes in the age distribution of Italian and Yemeni populations from 2000 to 2050. The predictions for 2050 are also shown.
When viewed from an overall perspective, the 15-59 age group dominated in most categories, with the exception of Yemen in 2000. In contrast, the 60+ age group consistently held the lowest rank in both periods. Notably, there is an improvement in the statistics of the 60+ age group over time.
In 2000, Yemen’s population was predominantly composed of young people, with 50.1% of the population aged 0-14, followed by 46.4% aged 15-59, and 3.6% aged 60+. In Italy, the highest percentage of the population fell within the 15-59 age range, at 61.6%. The second-highest group was the 60+ age group, at 24.1%, while the lowest was the under 15 age group, also at 24.1%.
Looking ahead to 2050, significant growth is predicted in the 15-59 age group, which is expected to rise to 53.7%, and the 60+ age group, which is expected to reach 5.7%. Conversely, the population aged 0-14 is predicted to decrease by approximately 20%, to 37.0% in 2050. Similarly, the elderly population in Italy is expected to double to 42.2%. In contrast, Yemen is expected to see a 3% decrease in the under 14 age group, and a decline in the 15-59 age group to 46.2% in 2050.
