The pie chart compares the market share of three distinct computer operating systems (OS), including OS 1, OS 2, OS 3, and others, on a global scale from 2012 to 2015.
Overall, there were significant changes in the global market share of these companies, with OS 1 exhibited the most notable growth to become the most utilized system worldwide. As a result, the collective share of other unspecified operating systems declined considerably throughout the period shown, whereas that of OS 2 and OS 3 virtually remained unchanged.
Regarding OS 1 and other types of OSs, in 2012, while the former comprised one-fifth of the global market, the latter had almost half of the market share, accounting for 48%. One year later, this disparity was narrowed, as OS 1 surpassed other types of computer systems to take the lead of the global market share, with 38% of OS 1, compared to 35% of other types of OSs. Noticeably, in the two subsequent years, the OS 1’s market share grew rapidly, reaching 52% by the end of the given period, while the usage percentage of other computer systems witnessed a fall, as they ended up with only 15% of the total market share.
With respect to OS 2 and OS 3, the figures for the former plateaued from 17% to 18% over the period. Similarly, that of OS 3 ranged between 10% and 15%, starting and ending at the latter level.
