The two pie charts compare the main reasons why tourists visited Orange City in 2006 and 2016, and they also show the approximate total number of visitors in each year.
Overall, the most striking changes are that restaurants became the leading attraction in 2016, while annual events were the main reason in 2006. In addition, the total number of tourists almost doubled over the period, rising from about 1 million to 1.9 million.
In 2006, annual events were by far the most popular reason for visiting Orange City, accounting for 45% of all tourists. Museums were the second most common attraction at 27%. Much smaller proportions of visitors came for the theater and restaurants, at 13% and 10% respectively, while only 5% visited for other reasons.
By 2016, the pattern had changed considerably. Restaurants became the largest single attraction, increasing sharply to 41%. Although annual events remained important, their share fell to 32%, a drop of 13 percentage points. Museums also became less popular, declining significantly from 27% to 11%. Theater visits decreased more moderately, from 13% to 8%.
By contrast, the proportion of tourists visiting for other reasons rose slightly, from 5% to 8%. Therefore, the decade saw a clear shift away from cultural attractions such as museums and theater toward food-related tourism, especially restaurants.
