Overall, the Americas eat less amount of three nutrients in breakfast. They are consuming more sodium and saturated fat in the two other main meals of the day. The snacks contain a lot of added sugar.
In the first meal of the day, the rate of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar consumed are 14%, 16% and 16% respectively, which shows that Americans choose to kick off the day with a light portion of nutrients. Moving to the second meal which is lunch, they start to eat more with the percentage of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar eaten are 29%, 26% and 19%. The main dish of the day to most USA residents is dinner, in which people eat the most throughout the day. The proportion of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar in this meal are 43%, 37% and 23%. A special meal is the snacks, which contain a high amount of added sugar, is understandable due to the variety of snacks in the US and the citizens’ preference. In conclusion, through 3 pie charts, we can easily see the eating habits of Americans – eat less in breakfast and most of the calories come from the three other meals of the day.
