The pie charts illustrate the proportions of three unhealthy nutrients – sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar – which may damage people’s health if intake is excessive, in four major meals in the USA.
Overall, it is clearly stated that the proportion of sodium intake in dinner is the highest among the nutrients; on the other hand, it is the lowest in breakfast and snack time. Moreover, the proportions of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar intake showed a similarity in breakfast.
Looking at the data in more detail, it is evident that the percentage of sodium consumed at breakfast is slightly lower than the other two nutrients, contributing 14%, whereas the amount of sodium intake at dinner has almost tripled, reaching about 43%. Furthermore, the proportion of sodium intake at lunch is almost as much as saturated fat, between 26% and 29%. In addition, the proportion of added sugar intake at snack time is the highest, with 42%, compared with 14% sodium and 21% saturated fat.
