The charts illustrate the percentage of households with electrical appliances and the number of hours of housework between the years 1920 and 2019.
The first graph shows that the percentage of households with electrical appliances have rapidly increased over the years, with the highest increase in the percentage of refrigerators over the years.
No household had a refrigerator in 1920, with only 30 percent having a vacuum cleaner and 40 percent having a washing machine. However, within the next 60 years, the percentage of households with a refrigerator escalated to 100 percent; meanwhile almost all households had a vacuum cleaner by 2000. The percentage of households with a washing machine increases slowly throughout the years, with nearly 75 percent having a washing machine by 2019.
The second graph illustrates that, throughout the years, the number of hours of housework decreases. The reduction in hours is steep on the first 40 years, although it keeps decreasing slowly until 1920.
Overall, the numb of hours of housework has decreased from 50 hours per week to 10 hours per week, which indicates that electrical appliances reduce the daily housework.
