The bar graph illustrates how many Japanese people travelled out of their country, measured by millions while the line chart outlines the percentage of Japanese travelers who went to Australia from 1985 to 1995.
Overall, in the bar chart, the number of Japanese tourists going overseas experienced a significant increase, despite a small fluctuation in 1991. In the same way, the data in the line chart shows a rise in the proportion of Japanese guests coming to Australia, apart from a slight drop in 1989.
To begin with, 5,000,000 Japanese tourists travelled abroad in 1985, which rose to 11,000,000 in 1990, then saw a little decline of 500,000 one year later before reaching a peak of nearly 16,000,000 in 1995.
According to the line chart, the rate of sightseers from Japan in Australia grew from 2% in 1985 to under 5% three years later, followed by a slight decrease to over 4% in 1989 and a final rise to more and less 6% at the end of the period.
