The given line charts examine data about the number of people that were influenced by four ranges of noise every day and night in the Europe metropolitan and suburban areas in 2007. Units are measured in millions.
From an overall perspective, traffic led the pack in all categories; in stark contrast, the city was dominant in all sectors. Of particular note is industry, which persisted at zero.
Starting with statistics of city noise by day, traffic marked an impressive 64 million, followed at a distance by trains at 10 million. When it comes to aircraft and industry, they stood at negligible 4 million and 1 million, respectively. Regarding by night, traffic was led with 48 million, in comparison with trains at 8 million. Meanwhile, the remaining categories comprised under 1 million in question.
As far as the noise of rural areas by day is concerned, traffic was the frontrunner at 34 million, trailing behind trains at 8 million and aircraft at 2 million in 2007. In terms of the night, the former one numbered 24 million, significantly higher than that of trains (6 million) and aircraft (1 million). Interestingly, the concern with the noise of industry stayed constant at zero in the countryside.
