The bar charts illustrate how many people were impacted in Europe by noise of traffic, train, aircraft, and industry in day and night between urban and rural areas in 2007.
A comprehensive analysis of the chart reveals that almost all people are affected by noise during the day more than at night. While the number of citizens influenced by traffic noise was the most dominant, the opposite was true for industry noise, with almost no people being affected.
Delving into specifics, the number of occupants affected by traffic noise during the day in the city was 64 million which was the highest compared with the remaining., followed by 48 million in the evening. By contrast, the figure for people influenced by industry noise was the lowest, just 0,25 million at night and 1 million during the day. While the number of people impacted by train noise in both day and night were 10 and 8 million, respectively , just only 4 and 1 million citizens were affected by aircraft noise at the same time.
Shifting the focus to the number of people affected by noise pollution in the rural areas. 34 million people were affected by traffic noise during the day, which was significantly higher than that in the evening, just 24 million. Regarding train and aircraft noise, 8 million citizens were affected by train noise in day, which was 4 times higher than that of aircraft and in the evening , around 6 million people were exposed to train noise while just 1 million were affected by aircraft. For industrial noise, the vast majority of people in rural areas were not affected during either the day or night.
