The chart illustrates the quantities of 5 types of vehicles: Private cars, Motorcycles, Lorries, Bus, Coach and Taxi (BCT), other types being registered in Europe over a period of ten years from 1996 to 2006.
Overall, it is clear that privately-own cars were the most commonly registered vehicles , while the opposite was true for Bus, Coach and Taxi. Additionally, while every other category experienced changes, the number of BCS remained the same throughout the period.
In 1996, 19 million cars were added to the registry, 10 times more than all other means of transport combined. This number, over the following 10 years, gained an additional 5 million, an increase of 26.32%, maintaining its dominant position. Similarly, the count of vehicles belonging to other types also experienced an increase, albeit by a considerably higher percentage of 58.33%, growing from 1.5 to 2 million.
With regard to the other three types:Motorcycles, Lorries, BCT, at the beginning, they were registered in very meager numbers, at only 1 million, 500 thousand and one tenth of a million vehicles, respectively. During the following ten year period, the quantities of registrations for both Motorcycles and Lorries declined sharply, by 40% and a fifth, before ending the period at 0.6 and 0.4 million vehicles, respectively. Meanwhile, the figure for BCT was still what it had been in the beginning.
