The charts display the numbers of people each household in 1990 and 2000 in New Zealand.
Overall, almost two thirds of households have less than three people in both 1990 and 2000. However, the families with just one person became nearly negligible from 1990 to 2000.
Starting in 1990, only a third of households had more than three people. Households with 4, 5, 6 people accounted for 17%, 8%, 6%. The proportion of these three types of households experienced a little changes in 2000, accounting for 16%, 13% and 3% respectively.
However, one person households made up 17% in 1990, and dropped significantly to 2% in 2000, which was almost the same level as the 6 people households. In contrast, the proportion of three people households increased from 21% in 1990 to 35% in 2000. Interestingly, the percentage of 2 people households remained at the same level (31%) during the period.
