Overall, we can see that secondary school students in both cities are more inclined to take Mandarin language classes compared to other languages. In fact, 40% of students in Melbourne and 45% in Sydney demonstrate the highest interest in Mandarin.
Japanese is the second most popular language, with around a quarter of students in Melbourne and nearly a third in Sydney opting for it.
In Melbourne, only 15% of students express an interest in Italian, while the figure is even lower for students in Sydney, where the proportion is minimal. Additionally, one-tenth of students in Melbourne are enrolled in Indonesian language classes, but this percentage declines among Sydney students, with a slight increase of 5% in those taking other languages.
