The given pie charts compare the proportion of students enrolling in five courses at an adult education center in 1985 and the current year.
Overall, modern languages were the most popular course in 1985, but this has been overtaken by IT in the present year. While the proportion of students enrolling in art, modern languages, and music appreciation has declined, enrollment in IT and cookery has increased.
In 1985, nearly a quarter of students chose to learn different languages including French, German and Spanish. This was closely followed by fitness and dance courses, which accounted for 22% of the total enrollment. Art classes attracted 17% of students, slightly higher than local history and cookery, which accounted for 15% and 14%, respectively. Music appreciation was the least popular, with only 8% of students choosing it.
This year, modern languages and art have seen modest declines in enrollment, with their proportions falling to 17% and 15%, respectively. In contrast, the proportion of students in IT, a new addition to the curriculum, has grown to 27%, making it the most popular course. A similar change can be seen in the figure for cooker classes, growing slightly to 19% this year. Finally, while the percentage of students enrolling in fitness and dance classes remains static, at 22%, music appreciation is no longer taught at the center.
