The pie charts illustrate how students in a particular European country allocated their spending across four catogories, notably food, rent, entertainment, and clothes, between 1985 and 2015.
Overall, food and clothing expenses increased slightly, money spent on entertainment fluctuated, while rent increased to twice the amount that of in 1985.
Students in 1985 spent quarter of their money on entertainment, which then increased to 28% in 1995, then decreased to 20% in 2005 and experienced another drop to 18% in 2015. On the other hand, they spent overally less and less on food, starting at 30% in the first two recorded years, then 25% and 22% in 2005 and 2015.
Furthermore, with regard to rent and clothes, 25% of the students’ money was distributed towards rent in 1985, and this proportion increased uninterruptedly, and finally doubled to 50% in 2015. On the contrary, the figures for clothing products halved over the years, from 20% in 1975 to only 10% in 2015.
