Overall, it can be seen that a major percentage of water usage is in the agricultural sector in Central Asia, Africa, South East Asia, and South America. In contrast, the industrial sector uses the most water in North America and Europe.
If we observe closely, it can be noticed that water usage in the agricultural sector is highest in Central Asia (88%), Africa (84%), South East Asia (81%), and South America (71%). Central Asia dominates with 88% water usage in agriculture, whereas South America uses 17% less water in agriculture than Central Asia. In comparison, 39% and 32% of water are consumed by North America and Europe, respectively, for irrigation.
In the industrial sector, North America and Europe lead in water usage with 48% and 57%, respectively. Water usage in the industrial sector in the remaining regions ranges between 5% and 12%. In the domestic sector, water usage is the least priority, ranging between 5% and 19%. South America utilizes the highest percentage of water in the domestic sector. Central Asia and South East Asia consume the same percentage of water for domestic use, which is 7%.
