The pie charts illustrate the proportion of water used for various purposes in six specific areas of the world: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia.
Overall, agricultural use dominates water consumption in most areas, except for North America and Europe, where industrial use accounts for approximately half of the total water usage.
In South America, Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia, agriculture is the predominant type of water use, with around three-fourths of water consumed for this purpose. Central Asia records the highest proportion, at 88%. By contrast, Europe has the lowest proportion of water used for agricultural purposes at 32%, which is slightly lower than North America at 39%.
While in South America, Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia, the percentages of water used for industrial and domestic purposes show no significant differences, with both values under 20%, North America and Europe have dominant industrial water use at around 50%, followed by agricultural use at 32-39%.
