The two pie charts show how much water was used in various categories in Sydney (Australia) in two separate years, namely 1997 and 2007.
Overall, some changes in water usage occurred in every sector in the latter year. While in most categories, the percentages changed marginally, the proportion of water in the service industry doubled its size in 2007.
In 1997, the food industry was the most common water user, with 48%. Interestingly, the percentages of used water in the service industry and manufacturing were near parity at 13% and 15%, respectively. The amount of water used in households was only four percent more than that of manufacturing. In the building sector, the figures for water were the lowest in both years (5% dropping to 2% in 2007).
Although water usage in the food industry declined to 41%, the food category remained dominant after ten years. Manufacturing industries had started to use less water by the year 2007, which was only 11%. Notably, water was obtained far more commonly by the service industry than the previous year, rising from 13% to 25%. The difference in water used in households was only two percent, which means it almost remained unchanged (19% in 1997 and 21% in 2007).
