Overall, the proportion of holidaymakers who lived in different accommodations like staying with family, rented apartment, camping and hotels increased to varying degrees, while the reverse was true for camping. It is also clear that rented apartment and hotels showed bigger figures in each year.
Focusing on bigger changes first, 7% of holidaymakers stayed in rented apartment in 1988 and this was followed by consecutive rises in 1998 and 2008, reaching about 22%. Starting at just over 15%, the figure for staying at hotels also went up noticeably and remained stable with rented apartment by the end of the period with 22%.
When it comes to smaller changes, 52% of holidaymakers stayed with family in 1988 and 1998, a figure that then declined to 44% in 2008. In contrast, the proportion of holidaymakers stayed in camping was 26% in 1988 after which the figure fell year by year, finished at 12%.
