The bar chart illustrates the proportion of people who consume five portions of fruit and vegetables per day in the United Kingdom between 2001 and 2008. In general, women accounted for the highest proportion among consumers, followed by males, whereas this percentage was relatively lower for children during a 8-year period.
At the beginning of the period, the number of fruit and vegetable consumers among females was over one-fifth, and it increased by 14 % over the six year period. However, after 2006 the proportion decreased slightly, ending by 30% in 2008.
On the other hand, the percentage of men who ate five portions of fruit and vegetables once a day was initially below 20%. This value remained stable over 3 year period from 2001-2003, before rising steadily. Subsequently, it rose slightly to 27% in 2006 and again stayed relatively stagnant. Similarly, the number of children remained constant , over one-tenth of the consumers, between 2001 and 2003. Then, the proportion reached 25% in 2007. At the end of the period , however, this slightly dropped to 23%
