The two pie charts compare the proportion of income spent by a university across six different areas from 2005 to 2015.
Overall, teaching and research emerged as the dominant category in 2015, while spending on accommodation and libraries notably decreased. Additionally, expenditures on administration and management saw a significant rise in 2015, whereas other areas remained stable.
In 2005, the university allocated 53% of its income to teaching and research, which constituted more than half of its total spending. In contrast, financial support for students and administration and management received only 5% and 6% respectively. Following teaching and research, the university focused on accommodation, which accounted for 16% of the budget. Both libraries and maintaining campuses received equal funding at 10%.
By 2015, teaching and research continued to be the dominant area, although its share declined to 48%. Expenditures on administration and management increased to 16%, and financial support for students saw a slight rise to 8%. Meanwhile, accommodation and libraries both experienced a decrease, with accommodation dropping to 8% and libraries to 5%. However, funding for maintaining campuses remained stable over the decade.
