The graphs illustrate the proportions of female, male individuals who had driving licenses in a European country from 1976 to 2006 and drivers aged between 17-20 in 1996 and 2006.
Overall, the amount of both men and women drivers experienced an upward trend through the period with the women drivers rising drastically. While young people with driver licenses had dropped moderately with the women drivers showing considerable reduction.
Men drivers remained steady in 70% in the initial years before starting to show a minimal growth in 1986 by 2%. Subsequently, they started to increase by 3% until 1996 when they reached 78% and then again by 1% until they peaked at 80% in the final year. However, the percentage of young men drivers dipped from 50% by only 5% in 2006.
In contrast, women who had driving license went up by 10% in through decades starting from 1976 when they were only 30% and ended the timeframe at 60%. Furthermore, in 1981, 1991, and 2001 they rose by 5%, 4% and 3% respectively while the percentage of young female drivers fell by a third from 30% in the ultimate year.
