Overall, it is clear that while there was a downward trend in the proportion of commuters to school by car, that by the remaining kinds of transport witnessed upward trends over the period. In addition, cars were replaced by buses to be the most popular way to travel to the university over the years.
In 2004, the percentage of people commuting to school by car stood at 51%, making this mean of transport the most preferred among all the categories. Moreover, more people went to their university by bus than bicycle, with 33% and 9%, respectively. Finally, from 3% to 4% of total people took trains and walked to reach the university.
In the next 5 years, the figure for people driving cars to school decreased significantly to 28%, whereas that for those traveling by bus followed an opposite pattern to increase to 46%. However, the figure for people going to the university by bicycle, walking and train experienced slight rises to 16%, 6% and 4%, respectively.
