The diagram illustrates the diferent ways of individuals went to office and came back home and the moderate distance also the timeframe of residents in a European city in 1959 and 2009 respectively.

Overall,more than half of the workers used walking ways to reach and come back from office to home in 1959 whereas,majority of people used car in 2009.Generally the use of car increased considerably over the period while walking ways declined.

In 1959,the majority of resident travelled on foot,accounting for 55% of all commuters.Bus and train usage represented 15% each,whereas car and other modes made upto 10% and 5% respectively.The typical journey spanned only 3.5km and lasted approximately 17minutes.

By 2009,the pattern has shifted dramatically.Car usage rose significantly to become the leading mode at 35%,while foot travel declined to 25%.Train and other modes accounted for 15% and 13% respectively.
