The charts compare the main methods of transport used by people travelling to a university for work or study in 2004 and 2009.
Overall, cars, buses, and bicycles were the most common forms of transport in both years, while trains and walking remained the least used. Although the car was the dominant method in 2004, the bus became the most popular option by 2009.
In 2004, just over half of commuters travelled by car (51%), but this figure dropped sharply to 28% in 2009. In contrast, the proportion of people using the bus increased from 33% to 46%, making it the most widely used mode by the end of the period. Bicycle use also rose, from 9% to 16%.
Train travel and walking remained the least common choices. Train use increased only slightly from 3% to 4%, while walking rose from 4% to 6% over the same period of time.
