Meanwhile, a significant proportion of women (30%) opted for romantic comedy, a figure six times higher than that of men in this category (5%). Science fiction was the least appealing genre for women, with only 5% interested in this type of film. Additionally, both genders exhibited equal levels of interest in comedy (20%) and western films (10%).
Regarding box-office revenue in the USA in 2010, action films accounted for the largest share of ticket sales at 49%, followed by comedy at 24%. Despite being the most favored genre among women, romantic comedy contributed only 12% to total revenue, significantly lower than action films—the most popular choice among men. Thriller and other minor genres together made up the smallest proportion of ticket sales, at 12% and 5%, respectively.
