The pie charts illustrate the total quantity and the ratio of new cars sold in Australia in April, recorded every 10 years from 1994 to 2014.
Overall, the total sales of new cars witnessed an upward trend during the period with the increase of SUVs and other cars. It is also notable that the number of Saloon cars took the majority in the sales share in all three years.
Looking at SUVs and other cars, the latter accounted for one-fifth of the total sales at 7980 cars in the first year, which nearly tripled the former at 2520 cars. By the next ten years, both SUV cars and other types of cars increased to varied extents at 21% and 14% and reached the sales numbers at 10080 and 6720 respectively. Then, in 2004, SUV cars significantly rose to a quarter of the wholesale at 12480 units, while other cars remained unchanged at 14% but with a higher number of cars sold, 10920.
Turning to Saloon cars, at the beginning of the period, the sale of Saloon cars was 31500, which was three-fourths of the total sales. The statistics of Saloon cars sold gradually decreased to 31200 and 28600, which lowered the proportion of these cars by 10% every 10 years from 1994. Moreover, the wholesale of cars consistently went up from 42000 in 1994 to 52000 by the end of the period.
