The line graph illustrates variations in banana prices, measured in US dollars per kilogram in four countries – Japan, France, Germany, and the USA – over a decade from 1994 to 2004.
Overall, Japan consistently commanded the highest price, while the USA was the cheapest throughout, though all nations experienced fluctuations with France displaying the most volatility. In contrast, Germany booked the second least expensive banana prices.
Japan began highest at approximately $1.80 in 1994. After peaking of around $3 in the following year, the banana prices experienced a sharp dip to $1.70 by 1997. Despite a slight increase between 1997 and 1999, the cost of bananas then plunged dramatically to a low of $1.50 by 2001, but recovering considerably to over $2.50 by the end.
France started at similar price level to Japan, at around $1.70 and remained stable by 1997. However, prices in France saw a downward trend towards 2000, after which the figure surged significantly to $1.90, surpassing Japan briefly in 2001. But the price was short-lived as it fell by $0.80 until 2003, before increasing modestly to over $ 1.60 in 2004.
As for Germany, banana prices oscillated between roughly $1.20 and $1.40, gradually levelling out after 2002. Meanwhile, the USA Prices were markedly lower during the given period. The cost was almost $0.80 in 1994, but there was a minor growth by $0.20 in banana prices in upcoming year and the $1 price stayed unchanged by the end.
