The process illustrates the way a Vietnamese makes a dish called”bánh chưng” for Tet.
Overall, there are many multiple steps in this process, from the ingredients to final product, the maker has to follow 10 steps.
To begin with, a Vietnamese has to prepare the ingredient 1 day before by soaking glutinous rice overnight. Meanwhile, mung beans are soaked and cooked until they reach a soft state. Come to the third step, the producer will marinate pork with pepper, salt and shallots.
After preparing the ingredients, the next steps are to wrap the cake. The leaves we use to wrap “bánh chưng” are phrynium leaves. Preparing and washing them carefully before wrapping. Then, they are put in a mold and it will be filled with soaked glutinous rice, cooked mung beans, and marinated pork. The ingredients are folded neatly with phrynium leaves and tied with bamboo strings to to form its to square shape
After that, the cakes will be boiled for 10 – 12 hours and people will place heavy objects on top to remove excess water and ensure firmness. When the cake is cool, it will be unwrapped and serving diners
