The diagrammatic picture sheds light on the process of a desert formation namely a rain-shadow desert.
Based on the data in general, the rain-shadow desert formation consists of 7 sequentially connected stages which starts when winds above the sea approach the coast and finishes as dry winds draw near the areas of inland.
The initial steps, to begin with, occur as a result of wind, which was created over the sea surface, hits the wall of mountains and is pushed up towards a windward side. On that level, the moisture level of the wind increases, making it cooler as it rises above. Once the air reaches the summit of the mountain, the clouds are formed. From that process onwards, being affected by the dry air, the rain falls out and turns into dry wind which goes downward. Ultimately, the process is completed when the dry winds reach the inland zones of the desert.
