The diagram illustrates the step by step process by which the rain shadow deserts is formed.
Overall, the formation of rain shadow desert consists of seven stages which start from wind above the sea approach the coast and end with dry wind near the inland areas.
First of all, the wind approaches coast above the sea and hit the wall of mountains and the wind is pushed at upward direction. After which, moist air began to rises toward windward side and cools down to form clouds. Subsequently, these clouds gradually turn into rain and began to fall, from which dry air continues to flow over the mountains toward the leeward side.
Finally, dry wind flow over continuously at downward side and as a result it eventually reached at inland areas which form rain shadow desert at the end. Ultimately, the process is completed when the dry winds reach at inland zones of desert.
