The diagram illustrates the various stages involved in the production of orange juice, from the fresh fruit to the final delivery of two different types of product to retail stores.
Overall, it is a multi-stage process that branhes into two primary streams: the production of fresh juice and the manufacture of juice concentrate. Notably, the process also effictively utilizes fruit by-products for animal feed.
Initially, fresh oranges are transported by truck to a factory where they undergo a washing process. One cleaned, the oranges are moved to an extraction manchine. This stage have two outputs: liquid juice and solid waste. The latter, is collected and processed into animal feed.
Regarding the liquid juice, the production splits into two distinct paths. In the first way, the fresh juice is directly packaged and then transported via refrigerator trucks to shops. Alternatively, for the second way, the juice is sent to an evaporation unit where is is heated to remove water content, resulting in juice concentrate.
This concentrate is then canned and stransported to a warehouse for storage. Before reaching the consumer, the concentrate is sent to another factory where water is add back. Finally, the reconstituted juice is packaged and delivered to various stores.
