The illustration depicts the multi-stage process of desalinating salt from seawater, which transforms into potable water.
The five-step process begins with intake of salt from seawater and ends with an integrated water supply system. During this process, salt and other impurities are separated and returned to sea, while clean water is prepared for human use.
The process starts, how sea water is taken directly from the ocean through a salt water intake. It then passes through a pre-treatment filter, where large particles and impurities are removed, and then the filter is backwashed and returned to sea. Next, water is forced through membranes under high pressure, and then sea water is concentrated and Bach into the sea.
In the final stage, water which is recycled receives post-treatment with lime, chlorine and fluoride to make it safe for consumption. Then, stored and supplied to the integrated water supply system for public use.
