The given layouts illustrate the transformation of a public library, one relating to 20 years ago and the other representing the currently floor plan.
Overall, despite the fact that the size of this public library hasn’t changed, the function of the rooms within the library has altered over the past 20 years.
Regarding the old scheme of this library, tables and chairs featured in the heart of the library, while people used to read adult non-fiction books on its eastern side and adult-fiction towards the west. In contrast, all the tables and chairs and non-fiction books have been removed and the adult fiction books have been replaced with all reference books, while these books are housing on the west side alongside new self-service machines.
Moving on to the 4 rooms in corners, all of the fuctionality of these room has changed. The room in the north-west used to provide games and CDs, while at present storytelling events runs at this area with additional sofas on the opposit corners as well as some children’s fiction books. The room towards the east corners was considered for providing children’s books and enquiry desks. This rooms converted to lecture room and a cafe which is accommodating the south-east corner. Finally, although the room in the south-west was a place for reading newspapers and magazines, this placed has turned to be a computer room.
