The diagram illustrates the different stages whereby the leather is produced.
This man-made, linear process comprises 12 steps, which can be grouped into 3 main stages: the transportation of materials, the treatment of product, and the final finishing, turning the initial skin into fully-made products.
The procedure begins with a delivery of animal skin from a farming facility to a processing site. The skin is then sorted based on size, including small and large groups. This skin is trimmed to remove any excess materials before being added salt for preservation. Subsequently, the skin is cured for about 30 days, which is after being soaked in water from 1 day to 2 days. This is followed by a hair removal using a knife and a pickling process in which a mixture of acid and salt is added.
After that, the tanning process begins with chemicals added over approximately 2 days. Next, an additional treatment is applied to colour and soften the skin, which ingredients are oil and colour. The skin is then dried by a drying machine and finally undergoes a waxing step, resulting in high-quality products for people.
