The diagram illustrates how sugar is made from sugar cane.
To summarise, there are seven distinct phases of the manufacturing process. First, it includes the period of sugar canes’ growth and their harvesting and then, the five-stage machinery processing: crushing, purifying juice, evaporation, centrifuging, drying and cooling sugar.
As soon as sugar canes are grown and ready for harvest, which takes 12 until 18 months, either a farmer or a specific equipment collects them on the farm. Then, as a result of crushing sugar canes by a machine, we obtain sweet juice.
During the next steps, the juice is purified through a limestone filter and heated in an evaporator. Through this phase, the juice turns into syrup and is passed to a centrifuge, where sugar crystals are separated from the syrup and sugar is obtained. Lastly, the mass of sugar is dried and cooled and finally, the manufacturing process ends.
