The maps demonstrate the significant changes witnessed in the ground floor of a library after 8 years, from 2001 to 2009.
Overall, the library underwent an extensive renovation with the addition of technological equipments and the shift towards a more diverse books collection.
In 2001, the floor was arranged into four main sections, including the self-help and history section on the left, the newspapers and periodicals section on the right, the fiction section at the back and eight tables in the central area of the floor. The librarian’s desk were located near the entrance, adjacent to the staircases.
By 2009, the old history, self-help and fiction sections were reduced in size and relocated closer to the entrance, right on the left-hand side of the desk, followed by the additional kitchen, economics and law bookshelves. The former fiction bookshelves were used to accommodate the new children’s books section, standing right next to the newly introduced children’s area. The newspaper and periodicals section was completely removed and replaced by films and DVDs, next to which a new computers’ area situated. The previous individual tables were substituted by four longer ones.
