The two maps illustrate how the ground floor of a library had changed after the development of some materials and functions.
Overall, while the ground floor’s size had no shift, the library underwent extensive modifications with a wider selection of book genres and the addition of modern amenities for visitors.
In 2001, there were eight small square tables for readers in the heart of the ground floor while the self-help and history sections were situated along vertical wall. The area accommodating newspapers and periodicals was positioned on the right side, whilst the top space was occupied by the fiction. Furthermore, the librarian’s desk was the first thing encountered up entering the library through an entrance at the bottom, adjacent to staircase located on the lower right corner.
By 2009, while no changes had been made for the librarian’s desk and the stairs, the tables in the middle of the library were replaced by four larger rectangular ones. The bookshelves along the length were reduced in size in order to make way for new genres namely kitchen, economics, and law. Meanwhile, newspaper and periodicals underwent an alternation, turning to films and DVDs, close to new installation of computers at the bottom. Finally, the relocation of the fiction section to the left side allowed for the addition of a large space for children’s books and children’s area.
