The diagram illustrates the stages in which cocoa beans are processed.
Overall, it is apparent that the process is divided into three distinct steps, from picking raw materials to produce the final products which can be distributed for consumers.
The process begins when whole cocoa beans are picked. The shells are removed and beans are dried to prepare for next step. At the second stage, beans are pressed to collect cocoa liquor. Following this, cocoa liquor is utilized in two different processes.
On the one hand, part of cocoa liquor undergoes further pressing in order to make cocoa cake and some cocoa. Subsequently, cocoa cake is ground to produce cocoa powder. Simultaneously, cocoa powder and cocoa are used in industries like cakes or drinks. On the other hand, cocoa liquor is refined to become industrial chocolate. The chocolate then features some sugar and the mentioned cocoa and continues further processing, resulting in finished chocolate products. At the final step, both cocoa powder and finished chocolate products are ready for distribution to consumers.
