The line graph illustrates how many people attended top-level football matches in three European countries – Italy, England and Germany – between 1980 and 2004, measured in thousands.
Overall, the figures for England and Germany varied slightly, with significant upward trends at the end, whereas the reverse was true for Italy. Of particular note is England which started with one of the lowest points at the beginning, and it ended the period as the highest.
Regarding England and Germany, the number of people in the former country decreased to around 23 thousand in 1986 from about 26 thousand initially before rising noticeably to nearly 30 thousand in 2004. Germany, meanwhile, exhibited almost the same change as England, which stood at 25 thousand in 1980. Having dropped to roughly 18 thousand in 1986, it rose exponentially to approximately 34 thousand at the end.
Italy, on the other hand, experienced a different pattern. After the number of people attending increased negligibly to around 37 thousand from an initial exactly 35 thousand between 1980 an1986, it dropped sharply to 25 thousand in 2004.
