The diagram shows how a butterfly grows during its lifespan.

Overall, there are four stages involved in the growth of butterfly, begging with the spawning and ending with the pupal stage.

Specifically, the cycle begins when the adult male butterflies calls for a mate. This is followed by the mating period. Once mating is completed, the female butterflies lay a massive of eggs in the plants where they will be nurtured. These eggs develop into the embryo inside each egg, a process that takes about two to three weeks. After the development of the embryo, they also have the appearance of immature insects, which are called caterpillar. In this time, their bodies are still incomplete but they grow rapidly in size.

The next step involves the caterpillars shed their skin multiple times and forming cocoons, which provides protection for the insects inside. Following the skin-speeding process, which lasts about two hours, pupae are formed from the caterpillars. This entire process takes approximately two months. Once the final steps has been completed, metamorphosis occurs, transforming the larva into a butterfly. The pupae are encased in cocoon continues to develop into a butterfly, eventually emerging as adult butterflies. Finally, the lifespan is started again when the adult butterfly enter the copulate process.
