The rise of social media had a huge impact on vareious parts of people’s lives and the way they interact with one another. While some believe it is making people antisocial, I believe it is creating a space for them to meet new ones.
Online sites such as Facebook and Instagram provide a platform where people with similar interest can meet, as well as keep old relationships alive. This is made possible because of the instant and easy access internet provides compared to meeting someone in person. On the internet, it is easy to meet new people in any part of the world and be part of someone’s life; it also takes a fraction of the time. For instance, people that live in different parts of the world will have a hard time sustaining their relationship, but with the help of online platforms they can communicate daily. Therefore, social media is helping people become more sociable by providing easy communication anong them.
However, these platforms are also responsible for the decline of in person relationships. The large amount of individuals people interact with on a daily bases has desensetized them to a point where they avoid meeting someone in the real world. Furthermore, the easy access to individuals online and fear of rejection have discouraged them to make an effort to make new friends.
In conclusion, while social media has affected people’s ability to meet in person, I believe it has helped them to meet those who are online and keep in touch with the old ones.
