The illustration describes the process of making Wesak lanterns in the Sri Lankan culture. Overall, the craft involves the use of bamboo sticks and tissue paper to create a colorful lantern.
First, you must prepare 25 sticks with each being 25 cm long. Moving on, you need to create multiple square and triangle patterns with the sticks. Next, connect these two shapes to create a spherical-like structure that resembles a lantern.
After building the frame, you can prepare eight triangles and four square-shaped tissue papers. Optionally, you can prepare different coloured tissue paper to characterize your lantern. On to the next step, cover the frame that you have previously made with pre-cut tissue paper. Finally, for extra decorations, frills could be made by carefully cutting a piece of paper just at the end, with an equal distance from one cut to another.
In the end, you have successfully accustomed yourself to the Sri Lankans’ habit of celebrating the festival of Wesak.
