The two line graphs illustrates the past and projected about the population of the world from the US Census Bureau.
Overall, it is apparent that the world population will continue to grow throughout the period, while the world population growth rate is projected to drop steadily.
The world population increased in two different stages. The figure started at 3 billion people in 1995, before experiencing a marginal increase to 4 billion in 1980. The second stages began in 1980, at which the growth accelerated and precipitously surge by over 3 billion people to 7.5 billion in 2020. Subsequently, there will be an exponential increase in the next 30 years. The world population will reach its peak and it is estimated that the population will home 9 billion people by 2050.
In contrast, the world population growth rate was slightly fluctuated, hovering between 0.5% and 2%. Starting at 1.5% in 1950, the growth rate recorded a dip before a slight growth to 2% in 1970. From 1970, the figure showed a downward trend. The rate dropped by 0.75% in 2000, returning to its level in 1950. During the next 20 years, there is a forecast of a decline to a mere 0.5%, hitting its lowest point over a decade.
