The diagrams illustrate the changes over a 100-year period in the Sawry District neighborhood from 1920 to 2020. Overall, the district undergoes considerable transformations in the buildings as well as public amenities, and the school relocation while the Avenue, the lake, and the river remain unchanged.
In 1920, in the upper left corner of the map, there was a big factory named the Tulebug Bros. Cannery among the woods, while on the other side, there was the Elmwood River intersecting the beach. Then, at the center of the map, there was a residential area comprising four houses connected to Oak Avenue by a small road. Furthermore, in the downside from the Oak Avenue, there were two houses and one shop next to the forest. Additionally, in the left down corner of the map, there was also the Prestwich Primary School in the vicinity of the Miller’s Lake.
In 2020, the cannery changed to the Yang Office Complex and one house was demolished to construct road that connected to the bridge crossing the river. Meanwhile, the beach had been transformed into a bike path. Additionally, a house at the intersection of the residential area was demolished and replaced by an apartment building. Next to the bottom side of the map, the Lanoco Petrol Station was constructed on the Prestwich Primary School location, while the school was relocated to the woods and became more sophisticated. On the downside of Oak Avenue, the area was modernized by constructing two new apartments followed by a shop center and several houses.
