The given maps depict how a village of Kelsbey was transformed after some improvements from 1780 to 2000.
Overall, the area witnessed urbanization and mordenization, with the most noticeable alterations being the addition of several new facilities and the development in transport links, and the clearance of green space. Additionally, the population in this village significantly increased over the period.
Looking in the maps in more detail, from 1780 to 1860 there was the construction of a bridge across the western river and roads built in the northern, providing more access for residents. In the center, two farms were demolished and the large area of woods was shanked down. Moreover, there was a doubling in the number of homes.
Another striking changes is that in the second phase, between 1860 and 2000, some shops were erected beside the river, with a newly-constructed wetland for birds nearby. In the middle of the area, more roads were built, connecting the residential area with the south. What is more, several sports fields and schools were placed in the original site of the remaining woods, which were flattened to make way for new facilities. Furthermore, the figure of homes remarkably increased from 200 to 500.
